With growing families and busy lives, my college friends and I have a hard time getting together during the holidays. Which is why we throw an annual themed holiday party in mid-January! This year "Saturday Night Live" was the theme, and I decided to dress up as Wayne from "Wayne's World."
Here's how to achieve this simple and awesome costume:
Dressing up like Wayne is pretty easy. Throw on a semi-fitted black t-shirt, ripped light-wash jeans and the infamous "Wayne's World hat." My hair is currently the perfect length for Wayne's mullet-y style. :)
You could come up with these basic items pretty easily, but here's where I got my stuff.
Outfit details:
Men's black t-shirt: Target | Wayne's World hat: Amazon | Distressed boyfriend jeans: Forever 21 | Shoes: Converse or more affordable option from Target

It snowed today in Chicago! It was that pretty, fluffy, Christmas-movie snowfall.
It got me geeked for the holidays. I love this time of year. I'll leave you with Captain Picard singing “Let It Snow!” from clips from "Star Trek: The Next Generation."

This is the coolest gingerbread house I've seen! Behold, a "Breaking Bad" themed gingerbread house. Who knew meth-cooking could be so festive?
Brilliant job, Sugarplum Cake Shop.

It's become an annual tradition for my family and I to run the Carrera de los Muertos 5K in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood. The "Race of the Dead" is a fun event and benefits a great cause. Lots of people dress up and run in Halloween costumes, some even others paint their face Day of the Dead style.
My favorite part comes at the end. There's a bunch of Mexican street food vendors waiting for you near the finish line. Long-distance running isn't my favorite activity, but if anything can get me to sprint that last stretch, it's the promise of food.
I decided to get into the spirit and do my hair Frida Kahlo style and topped it off with some red silk flowers. As you can see in the photo above, I finished and promptly got myself some amazing flautas.
As for my Mexican Halloween...
Later that night my family celebrated mi Abuelito's 82nd birthday with a Halloween-themed birthday party. I knew if I showed up as Elaine from Seinfeld, all my family members would be like "¿Quién eres tú?" or worse—assume I hadn't dressed up at all!
So I decided to knock a costume off my bucket list and dress up as La Chilindrina from El Chavo del Ocho. If you don't know what show I'm talking about, I think it's got the record of being the most-watched sitcom in Mexico of all time. I got to say, my mom's seamstress skills came in handy — I was able to replicate the dress she wore. How'd I do?
I wasn't alone! Check out my husband, mom and dad as El Chapulín Colorado, Don Ramón and Doña Florinda in the gallery below. (Click on photo)

I hope you have a great Halloween today, whether it be in front of a scary movie with friends, stuffing your face with candy or getting a kick out of scaring the neighborhood kids. :)
I celebrated Halloween last weekend, and in case you were wondering which costume I ended up going with, here's photo evidence of my geekiness.
Behold, my lady hero Elaine Benes from Seinfeld. I spent a lot of time crafting together an appropriate Elaine outfit, and my naturally frizzy curly hair finished off the look.
Prop-wise, I had:
- The Tweety Bird Pez dispenser from "The Pez Dispenser"
- Today Sponge from "The Today Sponge"
- Jujyfruits from "The Opposite"
- White tube socks for Mr. Pitt from "The Chaperone"
Outfit details:
Dress: eBay | Blazer: thrifted | Socks: h&m | Botticelli inspired shoes: eBay | Backpack purse: thrifted | Tweety Bird Pez dispenser: eBay | Today Sponge box: DIY | Jujyfruits: Dollar Tree | White men's tube sock: My husbands
Hope you enjoyed my costume!
You should know I did not go around shoving people and yelling "Get out!" But I was tempted.
